This is amazing. This goes BEYOND amazing. It is MAGIC. www.aquasciences.com/products.htmlTo summarize: it is a machine, about the size of an RV, that pulls 1200 gallons of water a day out of THIN AIR. Amazing.

THAT could possibly save life as we know it........ just sucking water out of the water vapors in the air will help A LOT

Yea, they designed it to be portable so that it can quickly be deployed into disaster zones where people need fresh drinking water.

Good for disaster zones, totally.
But about saving life as we know...
We have a finite amount of water on the planet, this just increases the amount we can use.
I'm not arguing that this is bad, not at all, I'm just sayin' we can't readily manifest water.
But this is TOTALLY COOL!!!

Yea, sgtpepper is right of course. This just moves the water from in the air to in bottles. it doesnt give us MORE water. The water is still part of the water cycle, but instead of raining down EVENTUALLY, it comes HERE AND NOW. Which is good, for disaster zones. That is what the invention is for. But it won't give us an infinite water supply, no. Although if we need water so bad, we can just go melt the polar ice caps on Mars....

Mars?
You n00b.
I won't embarrass you on a public forum, but...
Heheh, just kiddin'.
I think we'll learn to easily and safely purify piss before we fly to mars with some water jugs.

Ooo.
Speaking of cool water stuff.
I read a Popsci article about these Japanese dudes who made all these towers in a circle in the ocean that generate waves perfectly to create letters inside the circle.
Letters...
WRITTEN ON T3H WATER!
How frikkin' cool is that?

I think we'll learn to easily and safely purify piss before we fly to mars with some water jugs. Hey, piss is clean. You can drink it without needing any purification. As long as it's you own. So couldn't you just keep recycling the same water supply through your body indefinitely?

About the piss, who in hell would want to drink their own piss, plus it doesn't hydrate you as well as water.
About the waves, I'll look around for a link.

Yesh, find a link. With PICS.
Hey now. Don't diss on the piss. (heh) Just because it violates etiquette.. It still functions as PERPETUAL HYDRATION FOR THOSE LONG DESERT IRONMANS!!!

Here's that article: apanese researches in Akishima Laboratories working with Osaka University made great strides in the field of writing on water. Why would someone want to do this? Why ask Why? Try Bud Dry. Theme parks and hotels like the Bellagio would use this to make water shows to entertain their patrons. The device consists of 50 water wave generators encircling a cylindrical tank 1.6 meters in diameter and 30 cm deep (about the size of a backyard kiddie pool). The wave generators move up and down in controlled motions to simultaneously produce a number of cylindrical waves that act as pixels. The pixels, which measure 10 cm in diameter and 4 cm in height, are combined to form lines and shapes. The device is capable of spelling out the entire roman alphabet, as well as some simple kanji characters. I wonder if they could adopt this into hot tub technology, drawing out words like "I Love You" and "Don't Stop Don't Stop" when you're in there with your girlie. – Jason Chen

Whow.
That is cool. Combined with like a lightshow and stuff that could make a really cool decoration. And that Jason guy is right, it would be cool in a hottub. But even better if they could minify it even more, for like a bowl. Imagine eating tomato soup and having the company logo spelled out for you in it. You'd have to use proprietary bowls from Campbells, but it'd be cool.
But it sounds like the letters are highly temporary, mere waves which fall into nothingness after a second or so. Is that right? If so, is there a way of freezing the water only SLIGHTLY, so that it slows down but doesn't stop? So the letters would last longer, but still be eraseable. Would that work, or is water only available in ON or OFF, FROZEN or NOT FORZEN, and nothing in between?

DUDE i wonder how the hell they can get that to work..... it sounds impossible

I know. It seems that this company is deliberately not releasing information on exactly HOW they accomplish this, because they don't want anyone to create a copycat product.
Anyone have any ideas?

Yeah, it's just wave motion.
If you hit waves together right they cancel out each other or create swells.
I just have no idea how they got the timing down for the ENTIRE Roman alphabet!
Keeping the letter on the surface would also be difficult.

sgtpepper, that is EXACTLY what i thought when i saw that....... but you would think that the waves "cancelling" each other out would get mixed up with an entire ALPHABET

No, I meant on the first thing. For pulling water out of the air. How would that work?

Oh...
oops.
I think it probably has something to do with humidity.
My own knowledge takes me no further than that.

thats possible but is there much hydrogen in the air? if there is then you could pull "H2O" out of the air and somehow mix em...... i dunno...... just another stupid thought

Yes a stupid thought indeed.
No offense of course.
But there is NO WAY that's how it works.

yeah, i dunno....... my dad says it has to do with something like the way salt absorbs liquids in itself
|
|
|
Post by Sgtpepper on Nov 27, 2006 22:55:24 GMT -5
That could be possible.
Although, how much salt can there be per cubic foot of air?
Pretty cool piece of equipment though, I wonder how much the fabrication cost is?

high VERY high probably saps energy like linux sucks on my soul and i meant some process LIKE salt/water absorption not EXACTLY that
