What are your ideas for helping people discover this place?

I'll spare Wetpaint and I won't get into spud guns but yes, something about the ability to shoot things like coke bottles through plywood, is really cool.

What are your ideas for helping people discover this place? Not sure. The reason I made this forum was because I really had a hard time finding a forum that I liked a lot. AI was good for a while, but it is just too Apple-ish, and people get all offended when you preach the merits of PCs. Ars Technica and SomethingAwful are good, but you have to pay for them. There are a lot of forums, but I couldn't find one that perfectly suited me. Being the DIY person I am, I decided to try making my own. It may not work out, but its worth a shot. I have tried a few ways of advertising. I went onto a few forums and just posted a thread about this place telling people it was here (I know, I know, dumb idea...) Anyway I of course got banned for advertising.... I tried putting a link in my signature, and that works so far, since you came, maimezvous. Maybe I shall keep doing that and just posting a lot on different forums with that signature. Will take a while, but seems the only way I can think of. If anyone else wants to put a link in their signature on other forums, you can, but I'm not going to actually ask you to because that would be annoying. Anyone have other ideas on how to get the word out?

Just plain ol' word of mouth, man.
Talk to people about it, you never know.

sgtpepper is right. Word of mouth is great. Myspace is a great place for advertising too. Or so I've heard. I don't actually have a page, I'm kind of against it in principle.

MySpace is an abomination. It is literally replacing communication among people. Instead of talking in real life, people communicate over MySpace. Even when people DO see each other in real life, they talk about what they did on MySpace. Forums, in my mind, are different. Forums are for connecting people who don't know each other and share a common interest. It is hard for me to find anyone at my school with an interest in computer hardware, but forums make it possible for me to discuss the subject with people I don't know. This is different than MySpace, which takes people who ALREADY KNOW EACH OTHER and has them communicate through it rather than in person. Even though a lot of us on this forum already know each other, it is still not like MySpace because our GOAL is to attract people we DON'T know.

No I understand and agree. Not to sound mean, but you said that you created this forum because you couldn't find one that suited you. What's the hook though? AI has Apple, those other ones that you mentioned are technology based. What is the subject you are aiming for here? Knowing that might help you advertise.

I mean, technology based I suppose because we have hardware and software threads, and some stuff for DIY. But I also wanted to have discussions about religion and metaphysics. So I guess it is a technology forum, but mauvais for instance has no interest in technology but she still comes here. Like for the Creative-ish section she can post writing. But the best genre for this forum if you have to classify it is definitely technology. Does that help?

Sure I guess, but I have yet to post in the tech forums here. I have AI for that, and even then, I spend most my time in General Discussion and Apple Outsider. Just like here, majority of my posts are in this forum. My interests just aren't oriented around the technology. It's general discussion that gets me the most.

Fortunately for the lack of any visual verification over the internet, age and gender have no meaning over the internet...
Anyways, nice to see a new person here, from the outside. Hope more come.
And PAINT, we need to kill some of the boards on this forum. There are too many places to post with so little people right now...

I'd suggest condensing a few of the General talk threads.

I would say combine Teh Funnay, Creativish, and General Talk fora into one General Forum. Other than that I don't really have an idea since I haven't really spent quality time with the rest of this place.
Nice to meet you chinchillathekilla.
