Okay, so my crazed science teacher wants us to start our science fair projects now even though they're in MARCH!!
So I'm designing a wheelchair that can handle rough terrain. I mean, those ones the hospital gives you just SUCK!
So this thing I'm making is gonna be a BEAST!
I'm thinking, tank treads, motorized, gonna see if it can handle stairs, gonna build it so you can can take across ice, then rocks, then sand, and have it be purring afterwards.
The tricky part is, I'm trying to make this thing affordable, so keeping production cost down is big. The battery is my biggest problem, I'm not paying 500 dollars for a competent lithium-ion, but I WANT IT TO BE RECHARGEABLE!
Give me some feedback, I like that stuff.

cost will be a major issue I dont think you could get that for much less........... but if thats done right, that will be SWEET you might even be able to market that!!

Nah, cost won't be THAT huge of an issue.
Most commercial power chairs go for 1000 to 2000 dollars.
I want mine WAY cheaper.
I've got the battery problem figured out.
I have some 12 volt, rechargeable batteries that I could put to good use if I got some more. I need to find a good motor, I'm looking for something high torque.

Two words: Solar powered.

Another two words: HELL NO!!
This is gonna be trucking through the forest and through snow, when was the last time those to things were coupled with sunlight?
Plus, a solar engine that is efficient enough for one of these would be HUGE.
Solar engines belong on BEAM 'bots, not a tank.

i say solar should be a backup power system or something

That would be a very shitty back up system.
I'm just gonna run the batteries parallel.
That will be fine.

DUDE, this is a tank. Screw the battery, make it gasoline powered. In fact, use RACING ALCOHOL. (85% nitromethane and about 15% methanol) That'll ensure atleast a 2 second 0-100 mph time.
Good motor? WHO NEEDS MOTORS? Just hire some elves, they will do all the work.

Yeah, I was thinking about gas powered, but unless you have a GREAT sound dampening method, I'm not gonna do it.
Elves are too puny.

For a fuel source, try Anti Matter.

For a fuel source, try Anti Matter. No, it should be SOUL POWERED. Just find some people with strong souls and feed them into the front end of the Tank Chair. Weak souls will do, but will not provide as much horsepower. A diagram is provided.
